ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:

Soi Dog Foundation was contacted by someone who found a basket containing a cat near a pavilion in Thailand. There was a note inside the basket that said that the person who left Malawi there had saved him from some dogs that had bitten him but was unable to keep him as they lived in a dormitory that didn't allow cats. A rescue team was sent to collect Malawi and brought him to the shelter for treatment and care. The vet found multiple dog bite wounds around Malawi's neck which indicated that he was lucky to have survived the incident and must have been so relieved to be safe at last. Malawi has settled into life at shelter and enjoys spending time with people. He is friendly to people once he knows them and welcomes them to his suite. Malawi recently arrived to the US where we are getting to know him. He is a cuddly boy who LOVES attention, and will make an amazing new family member!

Malawi did test positive for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). FIV simply means a less effective immune system for a cat and may increase susceptibility to infections or have earlier dental issues. Cats with FIV can have long, healthy lives, like any other cat. Cats with FIV can live with non-FIV cats as long as they get along well. Ask us for more resources on FIV!
