Help Us Give These Very Special Pets a 2nd Chance At Life
The animals featured here are some of the hundreds who have treatable but costly illnesses and injuries that Homeward Trails rescues every year. We have limited resources and must make life and death decisions weekly. Too often, these animals are left behind in shelters simply due to cost. We need extra help to take in animals whose care will cost more and for animals who may be with us longer as they recover.
Your sponsorship of an animal will save a life in real time. Every donation helps save a life.
Please, consider a tax-deductible donation today to help these animals. They deserve a 2nd chance at life. And together, we can give them that.
OTIS
He’s in a lot of pain!
Otis started limping and after a trip to the vet Otis has been diagnosed with very bad hip dysplasia in both hips and needs surgery. He’s in so much pain when he walks and has a hard time getting comfortable when sitting or laying down. With so many dogs with orthopedic issues right now, we really need help covering their costs so we can book their surgeries so they can be on the road to recovery and pain-free living. Please help!
GRIDDY
He’s got terrible teeth!
Griddy recently arrived from Afghanistan. After spending a number of years on the streets, Griddy’s dental health suffered. His gums are inflamed and swollen. He’s missing teeth and his breath is horrible. He has to be in so much pain every time he eats or grooms himself. We want to get him a dental before it gets any worse. Before he gets to the point where he can no longer eat. Please help get him the care he needs.
ELOISE
She needs surgery on both hips
Eloise is an underdog. She was found as a stray and taken to a rural shelter. It was clear something was wrong with her legs, but until she came to Homeward Trails we didn’t know how bad it was. Eloise just saw a specialist and they determined she needs an FHO, or femoral head ostectomy, on both of her back legs. This sweet girl is in so much pain and surgery gives her the best chance of having a great life. At only a year old, she should be able to run and play and this surgery can make sure her future includes that.
We know the price tag is huge, but Eloise is depending on us to get her the surgery. Please help – even $5 will start chipping away.
DARCY
In pain with every bite
Darcy has had a rough life. She was living in a home with 60 other cats. Their owner realized she couldn’t provide for all of them and her family reached out to Homeward Trails for help. As soon as we arrived, she asked us if we could help Darcy. She said Darcy only got up to eat and even that seemed painful for her. Darcy would cry out and sound like she was choking after just a few bites.
We took her back with us that day and got her right to to the vet. She had labored breathing and her fur was matted with snot, drool, and feces. The vet had to bathe and shave her. She was diagnosed with bronchitis and has severe dental disease which is contributing to her nasal discharge.
While we have been working to get the bronchitis under control, she needs a dental and fast. Eating still causes her so much pain she’ll refuse food so she’s on medication to manage pain. She’ll need a dental with x-rays to make there aren’t any roots left behind that will cause her more problems down the line.
Can you please help this sweet girl finally catch a break?
GOOFY
He’s too scared
Goofy’s a big boy with big anxiety. When he meets strangers (including potential adopters), he gets so scared he hides behind his fosters. A lot of people want to meet Goofy and make him part of their family, but he is too scared of strangers to even say hello.
Veterinary behaviorists are expensive, but seeing one and working with their training team is Goofy’s best chance to overcome his fear of strangers. He is a velcro dog with people he knows, but Goofy needs your help to show his loyal, playful, goofy-self to new people.
OSCAR
He’s ripping his hair out
Oscar used to have a beautiful coat (picture on the left), but he seems to be battling allergies that are making him so itchy he’s ripping all of his hair out. A strict diet hasn’t helped so now the only way to give him relief is to do allergy testing. We can’t imagine how much discomfort he is in. But with your help, hopefully we can get him the answers he needs!
