Jacob was found in a man's barn, eating grain and taking shelter from the bitter winter cold. The man called the Wetzel County, WV shelter and the shelter, knew just who to call to get Jacob the care and love he needed: Homeward Trails.
Even before HT had secured a foster for Jacob (we always need fosters!), HT said yes, we will help.
Jacob is underweight and has lots of wounds, old and new, including an infection that has spread to a joint on the left front leg, causing him obvious pain. Yet despite the terrible times Jacob has been subjected to, he is, amazingly, friendly, mellow and sweet. He wowed everyone at the vet's office--staff, other dogs, and (initially wary) pet owners alike. The vet took an x-ray of that swollen leg and found it wasn't broken--hurray! But his care will continue to cost money (including antibiotics and continued assessment), so we're raising funds for Jacob. Click the link below to contribute to Jacob's care:

Jacob is now in foster care and resting comfortably. A kind HT supporter donated the bed and blanket--and, as you can see, he loves them. His foster promises she'll take more pics, but she says it's been tough since when he's awake, Jacob is generally snuggling in her lap. At first, when she had to leave the room, she reports, Jacob limped after her. Once he realized she was always going to come back, he settled into bed (or, even better, her lap).
We'll keep you updated on Jacob's progress.
Mandy was one of the earlier cats who came into the Homeward Trails system. She has been with us since September of 2007. Given up by her owners when they acquired a dog who was attacking her, this gentle older kitty with only one good eye has gotten more than her fair share of bad breaks. After an incredibly long time in foster care, Mandy was finally adopted only to be returned when her adopter took a job involving too much travel.
Mandy is settled again in a loving foster home, but really needs a place where she can stay for the rest of her life. She is a big girl who could stand to loose a pound or two. She gets along with other cats, loves her people, and is in good healthy. Mandy is a wonderful companion cat. Please make her Valentine wish come true. Her adoption fee is $50.00 as part of our Senior Whiskers Club. No funds needed to support Mandy....just a loving forever home!
Bouncy, bold and busy; pomeraninan Zeus is a whole lot of adorable packed into a 6 pound body! Tiny 2 year old Zeus is a fanastic apartment companion. Zeus needs special care before he can be placed in his forever home. A mass on this little guy's head requires some special tests to identify and treat this wound. Can you help Zeus heal today? He'll be on his way ruling your heart in no time.

Found as a stray, Zeus's past is unknown, but this bubbly guy is happy to be in foster care in Washingotn, DC. Zeus gets along great with the other dogs and cats in his foster home. He loves his daily walks and adventures, and is also happy exploring the back yard. He is a total cuddle bug who loves to snuggle on the couch or in bed. He adores being picked up and held. This little guy is playful, confident and attentive. He is doing well at potty training and crate training. Zeus is a confident little man who thinks he is a much bigger dog than he is, and does like to let other dogs know he's coming by barking on his walk. He will need a family willing to help him understand his role in the world. Please consider sponsoring, or adopting, Zeus today!
This poor kitty was found in October dragging himself into the backyard of a woman living in rural VA. Once at the shlelter, he was x-rayed and found to have a broken jaw, a broken leg and buckshot in his side. He also had a mouth full of broken teeth and was so skinny it was not clear how he was still alive. The shelter begged us to take him and we did! Our vet confirmed his dire status, including an infection that had set in.
We have since beat the infection and with a donation of $300 had tests run to find why he continues to be so skinny and sickly. This week, we were able to get Chester neutered (YAY) but we found he has actually lost weight - you can still feel every bone in his little body. Our friends at the Capital Cat Clinic neutered him and now feel more tests are needed to figure out what hidden illness is keeping him so sickly.
We are determined to give him a long, healthy life. They LOVED him at the vet. We have already spent the donations to get him this far. We now desperately need another $300 for additional testing and possble x-rays. This boy has had a terrible life - likely the victim of vicious abuse. But he purrs now, loves to cuddle and eat his treat and he greets all other kitties with a soft touch of the nose. Please make a donation to help Chester! Go to our donation page and enter "Chester" as the cat you're sponsoring.
Meet Mario! Mario is a beautiful black 65 pound mix from New York City! We are calling him an Am Staff, but we really aren't sure of his breed - maybe a little great dane, maybe boxer? Regardless of his breed, he is a wonderful dog!
Meet beautiful Brodie! Two year old Brodie loves pretty much everything - people, other dogs, kids, even cats. Well, we don't know if he "loves" cats, but he has lived with them before and is very tolerant of them. Brodie is an active, happy young lab mix in search of a foster or adopter. If you are an active family or person Brodie would love to meet you!
Poor Angel is feeling kind of stressed out. A sweet and delicate kitty, Angel really needs a stable home environment in order to thrive. To make things worse, she now has a bad tooth that needs to be removed. While she is very lucky to have been pulled out of a high-kill shelter with her four kittens, Angel really needs sponsorship to help cover the costs of her oral surgery.
Beckett is a very sweet 5-7 yr old, 50 lb hound mix who urgently needs a foster home. He's in boarding right now in Northern VA. We are very eager to get this lively dog into a foster home.
Beckett is a great dog with so much potential. He is a diamond in the rough. His good qualities - besides his good looks, that is:
Storm is 12 years old, but has a lot of personality and life left in him! And holy smokes, he is gorgeous! giant blue eyes, soft-as-feathers fur, and totally litterbox trained! Who would give this cutie up?!
Storm’s first day with me (his foster mom) really set the tone! While he was scared and nervous in his travel taxi, as soon as the door was opened he marched into my apartment and immediately started purring! He gave me a big rub as he walked proudly by and explored his surroundings. After taking in my small apartment, he jumped on the couch next to me and purred himself to sleep.
This is Kayla. Kayla was recently brought to Kitty City along with her brother, Mugatu. Both Kayla and Mugatu are super friendly 5.5 year old kitties. Although they are past the kitten stage, they love to play and are very outgoing and interactive. Kayla is the more playful of the two and loves to be petted. Kayla's fur is soft like a chinchilla. She's a truly gorgeous kitty with a lot of love to give. Just look at those big eyes!
