Poor Talledega! After wandering the streets of Baltimore, Talledega was rescued by Homeward Trails from a Maryland shelter. While in foster care, we discovered that Talledega has a heart murmur and needs to be checked out by a cardiologists. Doggie cardiologists are expensive, but it is the only way for us to know what is wrong with this sweet boy. Please donate today so that we can get his heart checked out!

Fluffy, adorable, and one of the friendliest cats around, this poor little 3 year old grey and white manx kitty named Bunny has been spending most of her time in a cage ( as have 5 other kitties with FeLV) at a small rural  shelter in West Virginia for a very long time.  The shelter staff absolutely love this sweet girl and are trying their best to keep her alive for as long as they can in the hopes that she will be adopted.  Her chances are slim though - poor Bunny is being overlooked because she is positive for the feline leukemia virus (FeLV).

Take a chance on Chance! Meet Chance, a gorgeous black and tan coonhound just waiting for his forever home. Chance is a southern gentleman that loves walks after a summer storm, hikes through a leafy forest, or just catching a nap on his doggie bed in the sun. Chance is an easygoing guy that gets along with both dogs and cats. 

Chance is housebroken, cratetrained and the easiest foster dog his foster dad ever had! He is a wonderful boy looking for a lap to rest his head on. Could that lap be yours?

Meet Jake! Jake is currently stuck in West Virginia, patiently waiting to come to the DC area where he can start his new life!

Jake was rescued by a West Virginia organization just before the county dog warden's appointment to have him euthanized. There were 16 dogs and unfortunately they could only rescue 13 of them. Luigi is the super-charged member of the Mario Family.  He is very active, friendly, playful, and affectionate-- all black and less than a year old.  He gets along great with all dogs and cats because he is only interested in chasing toys.  Luigi is all legs, neck, and ears and he loves to play, run and climb.  He is skinny, but has the muscles to power his dashes across the room with his all-white brother, Mario.  He loves people and purrs when you pick him up, but he doesn't stay in one place for long -- too much to do.  If you love a high energy, affectionate cat, you must have the Superbounce!!  He should be paired with another young and active cat.

Spot is a suuuuuuper sweet boy who needs some sponsorship and a loving home of his own! Spot was rescued from a hoarder where he was kept outside in a cage with no heat, no walks,  no heartworm preventative and no medical care. He came to us with a massive ear infection, badly decayed and infected teeth and a cough that several vets have taken time to diagnose!

Spot has now seen two vets and a cardiologist...and it turns out he has chronically inflamed lungs that need medical care. We must raise $1,000 for his lung scope so that we can properly get him treated.

But beyond a cough, you would not know that sweet Spot was not perfect! He wags his tail, sniffs every corner of the dog park and looooves to cuddle in his soft bed. He is good with dogs, cats and people. He is just truly happy to be out of the elements and in a foster home where he gets lots of love.

Elvira is an enchanting, gorgeous 8-9 month old black cat. She tested positive for feline leukemia so she needs to be a single cat, in a home with other FeLV cats or better yet adopted into a home with DOGS. ELVIRA LOVES DOGS!!!! She adores playing with the dogs in her foster home during the day and sleeps snuggled up with the dogs every night. She is a young playful, social cat who loves everyone she meets!! Elvira is a total sweetheart - watch out, she'll likely steal your heart when you meet her!

Cheyanne has had it pretty rough!  You'll have to read the description on her petfinder page for her full story - but sufice to say that this sweet, gentle giant has gone through quite an ordeal!  She is now living very happily with a foster family in the DC area and loves everyone.  Cheyanna sustained a leg injury quite some time ago and has had to have her toes amputated and an infection treated.  She may still need to have her whole leg amputated!  Please make a donation today to help Homeward Trails provide the medical care that Cheyanne needs! Stripes came from a shelter with an old injury to his leg. He wasn't putting any weight on it, but he could hop up and down the shelves just fine. The X-rays showed he has significant damage in his elbow joint from an infected wound. The bones can no longer support his weight and the only option is amputation. We need to raise over $1,800 for the surgery so he can be free of pain and resume a happy life. Please consider chipping in for his medical costs by contributing through pay pal.

He has already learned how to get around on three legs, so we expect a relatively easy recuperation before he can be adopted. Stripes is a young and very sweet cat. He will be the star of someone's family.
